An old-school project

An A4 folder containing typewritten letters.

One of the perks of being a freelancer is the variety of work. My clients range from self-publishing authors through to global publishers.

Although I specialise in educational publishing, I love taking on interesting one-off pieces of work, and today I’ve got a very enjoyable job indeed. I’m carrying out a manuscript assessment, reading over 200 pages of typewritten letters and advising the client on potential routes for non-fiction publication.

Of course, one-off jobs are risky, but this particular manuscript is beautifully written. There’s also something quite special about holding a typewritten script from 30 years ago, and the content is witty and engaging. I’m essentially being paid to read something I’d pay to read!

It’s a good day at the office.
